Grade Three is a year of personal discovery, as students develop a stronger sense of identity and community, and begin to expand their social awareness. Our third grade theme, ‘Where Am I Going?,’ allows us to explore the world, beginning with our classroom and expanding outwards in ever broadening concentric circles into the world at large.

This summer I was given the incredible opportunity of using funds from the Tadler Grant to undertake a journey to Italy in order to further develop the Latin program at GUS. My trip took place over the course of two weeks, starting with a few days in Florence, then moving on to Campania, and finishing with a week in Rome, the urbs aeterna (eternal city).

Glen Urquhart School (GUS) has announced that Gretchen Forsyth, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, has assumed the role of interim head of school for the 2019-20 school year.

Gretchen Forsyth, will assume the role of interim head of school for the 2019-2020 school year, beginning on June 12, 2019, through July 1, 2020, when a permanent head of school will begin. During this interim period, in partnership with the current administrative team and talented faculty, the role of assistant head of school will be filled internally, expanding the roles and responsibilities of several current faculty members.

In Buck’s second grade class, mindfulness is embedded into the daily routine, and has become very much a part of the class culture. Each day begins with yoga to calm and focus eager minds, and concludes with a reflection or meditation - sometimes lead by a student. In between, students practice deep breathing and mindful transitions when moving from one activity to the next.

Teaching and parenting are often confused, and it is clear to me why. As a parent, we teach all the time. We teach our children their first words and how to walk, how to tie their shoes and ride a bike, and how to be respectful and kind.
